Site Survey – Labelling AP’s location on ceiling without a stepladder

This is a quick post sharing a technique that I use when I need to label AP location on ceilings while performing a site survey. I don’t really like using stepladder as they are not convenient to carry around. They also draw a lot of attention and can be too big, disrupting the customer environment.

When I am performing an AP-on-a-stick survey, I use a paint pole in order to mount a temporary AP. It is light and convenient. Here is the one I use: Mr. Long Arm 3212 Pro-Pole Extension Pole, 6 to 12 feet.

So I use the same pole to label ceilings for future AP’s location. Here is how I do it in 8 steps:

1 - PRINT OUT YOUR LABEL (I USE A PORTABLE P-TOUCH)

2 - PEAL OUT THE BACK OF THE STICKER

3 - LIGHTLY STICK ONE EDGE OF THE LABEL TO THE TOP OF THE POLE

4 - LIGHTLY STICK THE OTHER EDGE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TOP OF THE POLE

5 - CHOOSE THE LOCATION ON CEILING

6 - STICK THE LABEL AT THE DESIRED LOCATION

7 - APPLY PRESSURE IN THE CENTER OF THE LABEL

8 - APPLY PRESSURE ON THE SIDES FINISHING STICKING THE LABEL

Hopefully, this will be helpful for you as well.

Here you go guys. It takes a little bit of practice to master the act but it is not complicated at all. If you are having a hard time doing step 8, try twisting the pole a little bit and it should do the job.
